³¹ Then Jesus *said to them, “You will all ^[a](A)fall away because of Me this night, for it is written: ‘^(B)I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock will be ^(C)scattered.’ ³² But after I have been raised, ^(D)I will go ahead of you to Galilee.” ³³ But Peter replied to Him, “Even if they all ^[b]fall away because of You, I will never fall away!” ³⁴ Jesus said to him, “^(E)Truly I say to you that ^(F)this very night, before a rooster crows, you will deny Me three times.” ³⁵ Peter *said to Him, “^(G)Even if I have to die with You, I will not deny You!” All the disciples said the same thing as well.

^27 (A)And Jesus *said to them, “You will all ^[a]fall away, because it is written: ‘^(B)I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered.’ ²⁸ But after I am raised, ^(C)I will go ahead of you to Galilee.” ²⁹ But Peter said to Him, “Even if they all ^[b]fall away, yet I will not!” ³⁰ And Jesus *said to him, “Truly I say to you, that ^[c](D)this very night, before ^(E)a rooster crows twice, you yourself will deny Me three times.” ³¹ But ^[d]Peter repeatedly said insistently, “Even if I have to die with You, I will not deny You!” And they all were saying the same thing as well.

³¹ “Simon, Simon, behold, ^(A)Satan has ^[a]demanded to ^(B)sift you men like wheat; ³² but I ^(C)have prayed for ^[b]you, that ^[c]your faith will not fail; and ^[d]you, when you have ^[e]turned back, ^(D)strengthen your brothers.” ^33 (E)But he said to Him, “Lord, I am ready to go with You both to prison and to death!” ³⁴ But He said, “I tell you, Peter, the rooster will not crow today until you have denied three times that you know Me.”

³⁵ And He said to them, “^(F)When I sent you out without money belt and bag and sandals, you did not lack anything, did you?” They said, “No, nothing.” ³⁶ And He said to them, “But now, ^[f]whoever has a money belt is to take it along, likewise also a bag, and ^[g]whoever has no sword is to sell his ^[h]cloak and buy one. ³⁷ For I tell you that this which is written must be fulfilled in Me: ‘^(G)And He was counted with wrongdoers’; for ^(H)that which refers to Me has its ^[i]fulfillment.” ³⁸ They said, “Lord, look, here are two ^(I)swords.” And He said to them, “It is enough.”

³¹ Therefore when he had left, Jesus *said, “Now ^[a]is ^(A)the Son of Man ^(B)glorified, and ^(C)God ^[b]is glorified in Him; ^32 [c]if God is glorified in Him, ^(D)God will also glorify Him in Himself, and will glorify Him immediately. ^33 (E)Little children, I am still with you ^(F)a little longer. ^(G)You will look for Me; and just as I said to the ^[d]Jews, now I also say to you: ‘Where I am going, you cannot come.’ ³⁴ I am giving you a ^(H)new commandment, ^(I)that you love one another; ^(J)just as I have loved you, that you also love one another. ^35 (K)By this all people will know that you are My disciples: if you have love for one another.”

³⁶ Simon Peter *said to Him, “Lord, where are You going?” Jesus answered, “^(L)Where I am going, you cannot follow Me now; but ^(M)you will follow later.” ³⁷ Peter *said to Him, “Lord, why can I not follow You right now? ^(N)I will lay down my life for You.” ³⁸ Jesus *replied, “Will you lay down your life for Me? Truly, truly I say to you, ^(O)a rooster will not crow until you deny Me three times.
